Textiles
For a number of years I taught creative textiles. In my current part time work I use a similar approach for therapeutic means. Inspiration from the vibrant colours and textures found in Indian textiles and culture enthuses my palette for all things artistic. It is the organic process of bringing together shapes and colours within my sketch books which is the basis for all my projects. I use a variety of techniques in both paper based and fabric based work; moving between them as my enthusiasm and thought processes ebb and flow. I particularly enjoy rag rugging; as this allows me to use a wide variety of fabrics and create my abstract art work with the depth of colour and texture I love. It enables me to use contrasting textures and weights of fabric alongside ones which I have dyed myself. I have developed the rag rug pieces alongside other techniques to create 3D wall hangings, as well as fully rag rugged pieces. I relish the detailing finishes of embroidery, both free machine and hand with the application of beads and sequins which make my abstract designs glimmer. I am part of the TRIO group.
