I am a full time textile artist working from my studio in Gomersal. Using a wide range of techniques, depending on the project that I am working on, I often combine several different processes in one artwork to achieve successful results. I take inspiration from the natural environment to develop my artworks, often intuitively, from my first point of reference. The Yorkshire landscape is a great source of inspiration and I am particularly drawn to patterns and textures which feature heavily in my work alongside more detailed line drawing. I use various printmaking techniques to apply dye to devoré fabrics which I then develop and draw into with thickened dyes. The final design is completed when I use devoré paste to ‘carve away’ areas of the fabric surface to reveal the imagery beneath. Machine and/or hand stitching is often used to finish the piece by picking up on specific details and clarifying other areas. In addition to selling my work from the studio and through galleries I enjoy running adult workshops form the studio in a variety of techniques.
