I work with stitched, manipulated papers and materials. I create craft based textiles, using found and recycled materials. By layering, waxing, scratching, painting, cutting, tearing, trapping, sanding, printing and drawing, I produce paper based fabrics which I embellish with hand and machine stitching to develop a final piece of work. Having been given the opportunity to work as Artist in Residence within the creative environment of the Lawrence Batley Theatre, I have chosen to respond to the theatre, its audience and client base. At present I am working on the concept of “foot printing” performances. I am experimenting by identifying the way an audience interacts with each other and am exploring ways in which to record this. I include stitch as a form of drawing but the work includes elements of print, surface pattern and book making.
