I took up pottery quite late after working in a wide variety of jobs. Having been married to a potter for 25 years, but always busy doing other things, I decided a few years ago to take up pottery evening classes. I discovered that I enjoyed it, and it was a wonderful change from sitting at a computer. Of course my early attempts were pretty hopeless but gradually I started to develop a style of my own and plucked up courage to enter a couple of pieces in Holmfirth Artweek which I was pleased (and surprised) to sell. In another life I teach English to adults, so pottery is still a part-time activity for me. I used to work in a room in our home in Holmfirth with a pottery bench on one side and a clay-encrusted PC on the other but I have now happily abandoned the computer for a clay-only workspace. My work is in un-glazed stoneware (frost-proof and suitable for indoors or out) and is currently mostly of legless animals (though I have plans to move on to other forms too).
