I predominantly paint Landscapes using my preferred medium of oil paint on canvas, but also enjoy painting other subjects, from cityscapes to seascapes, through to portraiture and figurative works. I work intuitively, painting as an emotive response to a particular scene. Depending on the subject matter, different methods and techniques can be employed to achieve the desired end effect. This process may include working from reference sketches and photographs, and combined with the imagination they are fused together until they finally emerge upon the canvas. The resulting paintings can vary in style, some loose and freely worked, while others are more controlled and refined. Through painting I am able to explore the elements of a subject that fascinate me most, such as; light and how it affects the subtle changes to the mood of a scene, to more dynamic aspects that can be found in the use of colour, texture and perspective. In my paintings I ultimately aim to capture the heart and essence of the landscape and portray its natural aesthetic beauty. At this years HOST I‘m delighted to be both showing my work and painting on site at Dewsbury Arts Group newly built extension to their premises at Lower Peel Street. I look forward seeing you there!
