Textiles
I am a textile artist and designer maker working with wire, beads and thread. I combine knitting and embroidery in a technique I have developed to create large wall hangings and smaller framed pieces that can either be abstract or figurative. My inspiration comes from anything and everything but primarily the natural world and the human form. I have a particular interest in portraiture. Most of my portrait based work starts out as small detailed drawings. My aim is to reproduce the spontaneity of these initial sketches in the final textile piece. I love to draw faces, particularly etched lined faces. In fact the older the face the better! I do not see wrinkled faces as flawed, undesired or undesirable. I find such faces to be full of character, personality and beauty and my large portrait pieces are a celebration of that. My work encompasses themes of age, beauty, transience and loss of identity. I have exhibited my work locally, nationally and internationally. Further examples of my work and forthcoming exhibitions can be found on my website, and I am always happy to work to commission.
