John specialises in hand drawn, imaginative and idiosyncratic work using brushes and antique nib pens to create detail and atmosphere. His work is complex in its concepts yet in terms of composition retains simplicity. He creates portraits, picture books, unique artworks, drawings and writes and illustrates comic books. He also sketches wherever people gather. John studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 2008. The course was unique, teaching drawing and painting techniques and sketching from observation. Many of his projects were collaborations with graphic designers and writers. He continues to work with others through ‘bestjoinedup,’ a collective of street artists and illustrators. Outside of creating his own work, John is working in community art projects, and creating an exhibition space and an art group for his local library. As well as that, he is self-employed in order to further his creative work, and produces high standard artworks of all kinds. Buildings, robots, museums and zoo animals are also part of his subject matter. His current and ongoing work is a collection of detailed psychedelic, surrealistic drawings inspired by natural forms and science fiction Drawing, painting and illustration are his passion, and he is constantly productive, seeking to create more detailed, imaginative and high quality work.
